Deliver Us From Evil

06.28.26 | Teach Us To Pray

Sermon: Deliver Us From Evil

Big Idea: We have a real enemy, but we also have a divine Deliverer.

Key Scripture: Matthew 6:13 — “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

What to know? We have a divine Deliverer!

Why know it? We have a real Enemy, battle for our souls through temptation

What can you do? Have a battle plan: wear your armor, fight together, don’t quit, worship

Why should you do it? That’s the new way we fight & overcome evil, through prayer & God’s power.

1.      We have a real enemy.

o    There is a battle for your soul, and we cannot win it in our own strength.

o    “Deliver us” means we are admitting that we need God’s help.

o    Temptation does not come from God; Scripture teaches that God does not tempt anyone.

o    Temptation can come from ourselves, our sin, our circumstances, and our enemy.

o    The enemy uses lies, accusation, deception, and strategies to pull us away from God.

2.      We have a divine Deliverer.

o    The word “deliver” carries the idea of rescue.

o    Jesus is the answer to sin, darkness, temptation, and death.

o    In Christ, we are rescued from the kingdom of darkness and brought into God’s kingdom.

o    Our hope is not in our strength, but in the victory Jesus has already won.

3.      We have a new way to fight.

o    We resist the enemy by submitting to God and relying on His power.

o    God rescues us by giving strength, endurance, wisdom, and a way through temptation.

o    God sometimes refines us through trials, strengthening us as we keep standing.

4.      We need a battle plan.

o    Wear your armor.

o    Fight together.

o    Don’t quit.

o    Worship the Victor.

Key Reminder: The Christian life isn't about pretending the battle doesn't exist.  It's about knowing who wins.  Every time you pray, 'Deliver us from evil,' you're not praying from fear. You're praying with confidence because your Deliverer has already won.  Yours is the kingdom; Yours is the power; Yours is the glory. Amen!!!!
