Give Us Our Daily Bread
Greetings,
This week we will be building off of the message from Sunday 6/14. Pastor Matt spoke on The Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread”.

Our Daily Bread
What comes to mind when you think of “daily bread”? Physical food? The packet of devotionals that the church gives out? Maybe you’ve never given too much thought to Jesus’ choice of words in this prayer. At the surface level, one could assume here that Jesus is referring to physical food, we rely on the Lord each day to provide for our physical needs just as the Israelites did in the wilderness in Exodus 16.
But when you truly begin to examine what Jesus is saying here, we realize He is not only talking about our physical needs, but our spiritual needs as well. As we go throughout each day, we need sustenance from God in every area of our lives.
As we rely on the Lord, each day we are also seeking Him, we are building a relationship with HIm. It is our daily bread, not monthly, not yearly, but every single day, we seek after the one who sustains us. In John 6:35, Jesus refers to Himself as the “bread of life” and declares that anyone who comes to Him will not grow hungry or thirsty again. We must look beyond our own ability to provide and begin to rely on the Lord daily to give us enough for today.
Bible Verse
“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord” Deuteronomy 8:3 (NIV)
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life do you need to look to the Lord to provide instead of yourself?
Takeaways
God wants to provide everything we need, all we have to do is ask
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to trust in you every day to provide for my needs, and to live by your Word, not the bread of this world.
